Cardinals Sweep Doubleheader Over Prairie View

BEAUMONT, Texas – Taking a break from conference action, the Lamar University men's tennis team stepped on the court Friday afternoon to face Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader. The Cardinals took both matches by identical 6-1 scores.

In the opening match, the Cardinals dominated the doubles point by surrendering just three games in the three matches. Big Red pushed its advantage to 3-0 when freshmen Max Amling and Haruki Omori-Cowie posted straight-set victories to give LU a 3-0 lead. Between the two courts, the LU duo surrendered just three games. The Cardinals took the first five points and locked up the overall team victory before the Panthers got on the scoreboard.

It was a similar gameplan for the second match. The Cardinals stormed out to a 1-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches and then turned things over to a singles lineup that took control early. Freshman Haruki Omori-Cowie and sophomore Brandon Do gave the Cardinals a 3-0 lead with their straight-sets decision at Nos. 6 and 3, respectively. The Cardinals surrendered just two games in the first two matches combined as they cruised to the victory.

Senior Joshua Taylor put the match away with his victory on court 4 before the Panthers could score their first point. Big Red closed out the day by winning the final two matches with one of those going to a third set.

The Cardinals return to conference play Friday, April 8th, when they travel to Abilene, Texas to take on Chicago State.
