Cardinals, Saints Set for Monday Night Showdown

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University men's basketball team (3-5) opens the new week looking to put an end to its current four-game slide Monday when they step on the court to host Our Lady of the Lake.

The Cardinals current four-game slide coincides with a rash of injuries that has kept several key figures on the sidelines, including multiple starters. Despite those losses, the Cardinals came up just short of knocking off Texas State Thursday evening in the Montagne Center. The two-time defending Sun Belt Conference Champions had to use a late run to pull away from LU, a run that included hitting their free throws down the stretch.

OLLU makes their way to the Golden Triangle one game over .500 (4-3), having won two of the last three contests. The Saints have a high-octane offense that has scored at least 100 points three times this season and they are coming off a 94-point outing Saturday at LSU-Alexandria.

The series between the two schools is not very extensive, just one prior meeting which came last season that saw LU record the victory. The 2021-22 matchup was an exciting game that came right down to the wire as LU picked up the three-point decision. OLLU has only played one other NCAA Division I team this season, but it was a close battle. The Saints took UIW down to the wire last month falling by just nine points in San Antonio.

Monday's contest will tip off at 6 p.m. from the Montagne Center and will be the Cards' lone midweek 6 p.m. tip off. The game will be broadcast live on Newstalk 560 KLVI and streamed live on ESPN+.
