WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CENTRAL: Baylor

BEAUMONT, Texas - Ready to kickoff the 2022-23 season, Lamar University's women's basketball team will set out to Waco to take on national powerhouse Baylor University to begin their non-conference portion of games. The opening tip-off will start on Monday, November 7th at 7:00 PM.

Kash For The Cardinals
Akasha Davis returns to LU after a freshman season that saw her win Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors. She averaged 12.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, which both led the team. The Southland Conference recognized her as second team all-preseason.  

Fantastic Four?
In their preseason polls, the SLC picked LU to finish fourth in the conference trailing only Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Houston Christian, and Southeastern Louisiana while finishing ahead of Texas A&M-Commerce. Of the top five teams, LU is the only school not to have a first place vote.

Road Opener
The Cardinals have opened their last 10 seasons with games on the road. Their last win to open the season on the road was against Louisiana-Lafayette when they won 79-77 in overtime in the 2018-19 season.

History With The Bears
The Cardinals are 3-10 all-time against Baylor. Their last win against BU was on Dec. 7, 1988.

12 in the Big XII
The Bears enter the 2022-23 season having won 12 straight Big XII regular season titles. This run dates all the way back to the 2010-11 season. They've also won nine of the last 11 conference tournaments. Last season, they finished 28-7 and made an appearance in their 20th NCAA Tournament.

Scouting The Bears
The Big XII Conference  recognized senior transfer Aijha Blackwell as the Newcomer of the Year and Darianna Littlepage-Buggs as the Freshman of the Year. Blackwell and Sarah Andrews were honored on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, while Ja'Mee Asberry and Drea'Una Edwards earned honorable mention selections. The Bears were second in the Big XII in points scored in 76.5 and points allowed 60.2.

Up Next For LU
The Cardinals will make there home opener this Friday, Nov. 11th at the Montagne Center where they will take on Jarvis Christian College at 7:00 PM.
