| By:

BEAUMONT, Texas - Earning a win in their return to the Southland Conference tournament, Lamar University's soccer team set their sights on winning their third Southland Conference championship as they will make their fourth appearance in the tournament finals. They will take on the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce with the game starting at 1:00 PM this Sunday on the field of Northwestern State University.

Taming The Huskies
The Cardinals managed to win their second straight 1-0 game as they eliminated the Huskies from the tournament in the semifinals. Much like the regular season finale, Laura Linares netted the winning goal although this time, it occurred in the 34th minute. Nicole Panis made three saves for LU.

You Again?
This will mark LU's third appearance to the championship in six seasons and fourth all-time. The Cardinals previously made three appearances in the championship game winning in 2017 against Stephen F. Austin and 2019 against Northwestern State. Their other appearance was in 2012 when they came up short to SFA.

Round Three Versus The Lions
LU defeated AMC twice during the regular season. In both games, they overcame a one-goal deficit to win. LU shocked the Lions with three goals in a five minute stretch late in the second half at home while Cariel Ellis scored twice in the first half to make the Cardinals 2-1 winners in Commerce.

Lion Pride Upsets Host Team
After knocking off Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 2-1 in their first-round matchup, the Lions would face off with the host school Northwestern State University. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, AMC stunned the Demons with two goals to take the lead only for NSU to equalize on a penalty kick. In extra time, AMC scored the game-winner to secure their place to the conference championship game.
