BATON ROUGE, La. - In their third ever trip to the NCAA tournament, Lamar University's soccer team looked to make the third time the charm in hopes of advancing onward. Instead, their season came to an end following a 3-1 loss to LSU in the first round. LU's season ends at 15-2-2 overall.

Christine Kitaru.
Nicole Panis made 13 saves throughout the match despite allowing three goals.
The Cardinals would have early chances to score in the first half with three shots while three other opportunities were nullified due to offsides. Despite being yellow carded twice in the half, the Tigers would get a breakthrough in the 32nd minute to grab a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later, LSU would draw a penalty in the box, which led to a penalty kick goal.
Down two at the half, LU tried to cut the lead to one with a shot in the 59th minute. But it was saved by LSU's goalkeeper. The Tigers would extend the lead to 3-0 in the 64th minute. However, Big Red kept fighting as Kitaru would get the Cards on the board in the 81st minute. The Cards would try to get closer, but were unable to convert a penalty kick and time ran out on their season.
