SOCCER CENTRAL: LSU

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas - With a double accomplished by winning both the Southland Conference regular season and tournament championships, the Lamar University soccer team now sets their sights on the NCAA Tournament. Their first round opponents will be the eighth seeded LSU Tigers and the game will take place in Baton Rouge on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m.

Down 1-0 to Commerce Again? No problem!
Facing off with Texas A&M-Commerce for the third time this season, LU once again trailed 1-0 to the Lions. But once again, LU came back as Christine Kitaru and Cariel Ellis each delivered two goals and an assist to carry the Red Birds to a 4-1 victory to clinch the conference title.

Southland All-Tournament Team
Five players for LU were selected to the all-conference tournament team. Christine Kitaru was selected as the tournament MVP while she was joined by Ellis, Abby Gemza, Laura Linares, and Nicole Panis.

History in the NCAA Tournament
This will mark the third appearance for LU in the NCAA tournament. They previously went twice in 2017 and 2019. But each time, they fell in the first round losing to Texas A&M in 2017 and UCLA in 2019.

All-Time vs. the Tigers
LU is winless in three meetings all-time with LSU. Between 2016-2018, LU has yet to score a goal while giving up nine goals in that stretch.

Scouting the Tigers
LSU is 9-3-7 this season and 4-2-4 in the Southeastern Conference. They would lose on penalty kicks in their first round matchup to Ole Miss. Goalkeeper Mollie Swift led the conference with 70 saves (4.12 per game). LSU is scoring 1.95 goals per game, while they were 11th in the conference in goals allowed (24, 1.96 per game).
