BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University volleyball team (8-17/2-12 Southland) got out to a slow start Tuesday evening against Nicholls and never managed to fully recover dropping a 3-1 (25-22, 25-12, 23-25, 25-19) decision at McDonald Gym.
Lamar University finished the night recording a 46-26-160 (.125) effort from the court. Big Red was led by two players in double figures –
Amber Johnson (15 kills/.433) and
Kaitlyn Gil (10 kills).
Unfortunately, the Cardinals stumbled out of the gates and found themselves down 2-0 before they started to rally in the third. The third frame saw the Cardinals build a six-point lead midway through the third set and hold off a late rally to get on the board.
Unfortunately, the momentum didn't last as Nicholls battled back to win the match by taking the fourth set. The Colonels finished the night with 56 kills and a .250 attack percentage. The offense was aided by 20 total blocks.
The Cardinals return to action Thursday when they host Southeastern Louisiana. The match against the Lions will begin at 6 p.m. from McDonald Gym.
