BEAUMONT, Texas - In a position to clinch their third Southland Conference regular season title, Lamar University's soccer team will travel to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to meet with the Islanders. The kickoff will start on Sunday at 1:00 P.M.
Can't Have One Without The Other
The Cardinals blanked the Houston Christian Huskies 3-0 in Houston on Friday night. Alana Clark netted the game-winner just four minutes into the contest. She now joins her twin sister Trinity Clark in the goal column. Trinity scored her goal against Louisiana (9/1/22).
10 For 19
Kitaru netted her 10th goal of the season becoming the first player since Esther Okoronkwo (2020) to score in double-figures. Kitaru's goal also came off an assist from Cariel Ellis, which marks the seventh time the two connected for a goal.
Just Win Baby!
Northwestern State defeated AMCC 2-1 on Friday night. Because of this, the Cardinals (7-1-1, 25 points) still have a five point lead over the Demons (6-2-2, 20 points) for first place overall. With two games to play, the Cardinals can clinch the regular season conference title with the following scenarios:
- LU beats AMCC regardless of NSU result with UIW.
- LU draws with or loses to AMCC while NSU draws with UIW.
- LU loses to AMCC and NSU loses to UIW.
History With The Islanders
LU came away with a 1-0 victory against the Islanders on September 11th of this year. Eva Karen converted a penalty kick in the 33rd minute, which was the only goal of the game. The win meant LU now holds an 8-3 record all-time against AMCC, which includes a current seven-match winning streak against AMCC.
Scouting the Islanders
The Islanders are coming off a 2-1 loss to NSU to be 8-6-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the conference. Averaging 14 shots per game, second to NSU, AMCC top goal scorer Morgan Westbury (seven along with Megan Guy) has a conference-high 3.31 shots per game.
Up Next
