BEAUMONT, Texas – After a year's absence, Lamar University and McNeese renewed the Battle of the Border Saturday at McDonald Gym. Unfortunately, the Cardinals got out to a slow start and never recovered falling, 3-0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-18), to the Cowgirls.
Riding the momentum of Thursday's victory, the Cardinals (7-13/1-8 SLC) looked to make it two in a row but it wasn't to be as McNeese scored five of the first six points and never looked back. The Cowgirls eventually pushed their first set advantage to 16 points before Big Red mounted a rally.
The Cardinals finished the day 34-of-113 from the floor but were hurt by 18 attack errors. On the other side of the court, McNeese took advantage of LU's miscues. McNeese ended the day 40-9-110 (.282) to go along with 10 service aces, the majority of which came in the opening set.
Sophomore
Paige Dugan led the Cardinals with nine kills to go along with eight from
Wiktoria Warpechowska.
The Cardinals return to action Thursday when they host Texas A&M-Commerce. The match against Lions will begin at 6 p.m. from McDonald Gym.
