BEAUMONT, Texas – Freshman Elias Peter recorded two singles victories Thursday in the opening round of the ITA Regional Championships to advance to the third round of the draw.
 
With several Cardinals taking to the court Thursday, Peter took center stage winning his opening-round match defeating UIW's Pietro Perego in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Peter came right back in the next round to face Eshan Talluri from Texas. Peter's second match went the distance but Peter recorded a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 victory in the end.
 
Classmate Max Milic was on the verge of advancing to winner's bracket following his opening-round match. After dropping the opening set to Abilene Christian's Benjamin McDonald, Milic fought back to take the second. Unfortunately, McDonald rallied back in the third to take a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory.
 
The Cardinals will open doubles play Friday morning from Waco, Texas, followed by the next round of singles competition.
