BEAUMONT, Texas - With another win under their belt to go 8-0-1 overall and 5-0 in the Southland Conference, the first place Lamar University women's soccer team will travel back to Louisiana to take on the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana. This Sunday afternoon contest will kickoff at 1:00 PM.
Will The Real Cardinals Please Stand Up?
In a battle of Cardinals, LU managed to shutout the University of The Incarnate Word 2-0. This marks the fifth time in the last six games LU has produced a shutout while they have scored 12 goals in that same stretch. It also is the tenth straight home victory for LU dating back to last season.
Arely Reliable Free Kick
Arely Alaniz converted her first goal of the season and the first of her career in the 30th minute in last night's win against UIW. It came off the free kick following a UIW yellow card, which led to the game-winner.

I-14 Intersects With I-19
Christine Kitaru netted her team-high seventh goal of the season in the 42nd minute. Once again, it was her teammate
Cariel Ellis who got the assist. This is the fourth time the two of them have connected on a scoring play for the season.
History With The Lions
In 16 meetings all-time, LU has an 8-6-2 edge over the Lions. In February of 2021, the Cardinals lost a double-overtime affair to SELA 3-2 as
Hollie Massey recorded an assist in the game. The last time LU defeated the Lions was on Oct. 11, 2019 when the Cardinals claimed a 5-3 win thanks to four second half goals.
Kaisa Juvonen scored a late insurance goal for LU in the 70th minute.

Scouting the Lions
SELA is 4-3-1 and 2-1-1 in the conference following a 4-1 loss to Houston Christian. Mya Guillory (two assists, 12 shots) and Emma Jones each lead the Lions with two goals apiece. Olivia Griffin has allowed nine goals, which is a 1.34 goals against average.
