BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University returns to action Friday when they open play in the HBU Invitational – a two-day, four-team tournament – which includes tournament-host HBU, Prairie View A&M and Louisiana Tech. The Cardinals open the tournament Friday against HBU (6:30 p.m.). Big Red will then face Prairie View A&M (a rematch from the Katrinka Crawford Invitational) at 10 a.m. on Saturday followed by a match against Louisiana Tech at 4:30 p.m.
The Cardinals are 1-3 (.250) for the season will take the trip to Houston to wrap up a four-match road swing before returning to Beaumont for the Lamar Invitational on Sept. 10 – Sept 11. Where they play host to Arkansas – Pine Bluff, Little Rock and Northwestern State at the McDonald Gym.
In competition with HBU, the Cardinals currently sit at 8-9 overall. The Cardinals will look to take the win to balance out the overall score between the two sides and look for revenge and take their first win against the Huskies since 2016.
The second match of the invitational tournament will see Big Red take on Prairie View A&M, as they look to continue their unbeaten run, which currently sits at an impressive 22-0 overall.
The Cardinals will come up against Louisiana Tech (21-7) for the first time since 2015 in their last matchup of the tournament. The match, due to start at 4.30 p.m. on Saturday will be another opportunity for LU to spin their season back into winning ways in preparation for the commencement of the WAC play in just short of a month.
