BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball program gained the addition of Brooklyn Mitchell for the upcoming 2021-22 season, announced head coach
Aqua Franklin on Thursday afternoon.
"We are elated to welcome Brooklyn Mitchell back to the south and closer to home," said head coach
Aqua Franklin. "Brooklyn is an elite competitor with power five experience. She will provide depth to our guard position. On paper we are the most talented we've been since the start of our coaching campaign at Lamar. We are excited about the potential of this team and Brooklyn adds to that."
Brooklyn Mitchell – 5'6" – Guard – Ursuline Academy/Kansas (New Orleans, La.)
Mitchell comes to Beaumont by the way of Lawrence, Kansas where she spent three years apart of the Jayhawk program. Playing in 80 games over the course of her collegiate career, Mitchell averaged 5.4 points per game and brought down 1.7 rebounds per game. She posted a career-high of 24 points against Florida Atlantic in 2019. Mitchell has a career-high of five steals that came against Texas in 2020.
Prior to her time at Kansas, Mitchell is a former five-star recruit that ranked No. 45 overall in the nation, according to ESPN. She was also named an Adidas All-American in 2017. She helped led Ursuline Academy to two state titles and was named and All-District selection three times. She tallied career-best averages of 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in her senior year, while earning multiple all-district, all-metro and all-state honors during her youth career.
