BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University will be holding a press conference Wednesday at 10 a.m. to announce new head basketball coach Alvin Brooks. The press conference will be held on the arena floor inside the Montagne Center. The press conference is open to the public, and fans will be allowed access to the event through Gate 1.
 
Brooks was named the Cardinals 12^th head coach last week via release while he was helping the Houston Cougars prepare for the NCAA Final Four in Indianapolis. Brooks is making a return to his alma mater where he is one of the program's all-time greatest players. A 2019 Cardinal Hall of Honor inductee, Brooks was a 1981 All-Southland Conference selection who went on to be a 10^th-round selection of the San Antonio Spurs in the 1981 NBA Draft.
 
Brooks got his start in coaching at LU under another Cardinal Hall of Honor inductee – Pat Foster – where he helped guide the Cardinals to 109 victories, four NIT appearances, two Southland Conference regular season titles and the 1983 NCAA Championships.
 
During his career, Brooks has participated in 23 postseason tournaments as either a coach or student-athlete.
