HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Lamar University women's soccer program dropped is second consecutive contest, this time to Sam Houston by a 2-0 decision on Saturday afternoon.
"It was a challenge going down early, but we created plenty of opportunities to equalize," said head coach
Steve Holeman. "Sam Houston is always a tough place to play, and it showed today. We don't get shutout very often but that's how the game goes sometimes. I'm really proud of this team and we'll continue to battle with the players we have remaining."
The Bearkats got on the board in the 6
th minute on a solo goal by Ashley Friedrichs. Lamar got plenty of opportunities, but only had three shots on goal. Sam Houston extended their lead to 2-0 over the Cards and sealed the victory.
The Cardinals outshot the Bearkats 10-7, but shots on goals favored Sam Houston by a total of four to LU's three. Sophomore
Nicole Panis tallied two saves on the evening. Corner kicks favored the Big Red as they had seven and Sam Houston recorded five.
UP NEXT: The Cardinals will close out the regular season on the road at McNeese on Friday, April 9
