BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University softball program dropped game one of the series against UIW on Saturday afternoon in six innings, 9-1.
The Cardinals got things going in the first as they took an early lead over UIW after sophomore
Nicolette Ramirez recorded a single to right field that allowed junior
Aleka Xayaseng to turn the burners on to put LU up, 1-0, after one inning.
UIW did not waste any time responding to the Big Red, as they tallied their first runs to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. The league's other Cardinals took the lead then and held onto it as they extended their lead in the fourth to 6-0 over the Cardinals. UIW went onto capture the victory in six innings by a score of 9-1.
The series was scheduled to be a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, but due to incoming weather the coaches and umpires agreed to move game two to Sunday at noon with the series finale to be shortly after the 12 p.m. game. Both contests are slated to be at the LU Softball Complex.
