BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's soccer program will travel to San Antonio, Texas for a Sunday afternoon matchup with the Southland's other Cardinals – UIW – with a 1:00 p.m. kick off set to take place in the Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.
Leading the Big Red offense is redshirt senior
Esther Okoronkwo who has tallied 11 points on the hybrid season and recorded 17 shots on goal. Junior
Hollie Massey helps tack onto the Cardinal offense as she ranks second on the team with five points on 13 shots. Sophomore
Nicole Panis leads Lamar between the pipes with 461:22 minutes registered while making 33 stops on the year and posting two shutouts.
LAST TIME OUT: Led by two goals from Okoronkwo, the Cardinals came back to defeat Abilene Christian on a chilly night for their first win in Abilene. Panis tallied eight saves in the contest while allowing just one goal.
SERIES HISTORY: This will mark the 8
th meeting between the Cards and UIW. In the last meeting, Lamar captured a decisive 3-2 decision over UIW at the LU Softball Complex.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS: UIW owns a 2-2-1 record and are coming into the Sunday contest after coming to a 1-1 tie against McNeese on Friday, March 5
th. Keely Ayala leads UIW with four points on two goals. In between the pipes for the SLC's other Cards is Margaret Kofron who owns a 0.63 GAA and has recorded five saves on the year.
