Women's Hoops Captures Regular Season Finale

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Lamar University capped off the regular season with a win in the Battle of the Border over McNeese, 68-60, in Burton Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

"It was a great team win," said head coach Aqua Franklin. "I am proud of our toughness and resilience to finish the game! We have been road warriors all of conference play having went 5-2 on the road in Southland play. We have also been blessed to be COVID free all season."

The Cardinals broke out the high-powered offense right out of the gate as they held the Cowgirls to just 14 percent shooting in the first period while making 38 percent of Big Red shots. Lamar kept with the high-powered pace as they shot 63 percent in the second quarter that gave Big Red a 36-20 advantage going into the half.

McNeese was paced by Claralee Richard who finished the afternoon with 20 points on 8-for-20 shooting. Divine Tanks led the Cowgirl defense with nine rebounds and added a block as well. McNeese shot just 34 percent overall for the contest with the fourth quarter being the best for the Cowgirls.

Overall, the Cardinals shot 40 percent including going 38 percent from beyond the arc. Despite the win, McNeese outrebounded LU, 45-40, but it was the Cards that were able to capitalize on second chance points. Senior Shedricka Pierson finished the contest with 13 points and four rebounds. Freshman Bebe Galloway finished the afternoon with 12 points and 14 rebounds for her second career double double.

UP NEXT: The Cardinals will travel to Katy, Texas to partake in the 2021 Southland Conference Tournament. Lamar will learn its seed for the tournament at the conclusion of each SLC game today.
