Clash of the Cardinals as Volleyball travel to UIW

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University volleyball team will travel to the University of the Incarnate Word (4-8, 3-6 Southland) Thursday night for their penultimate game of the season. Play is due to begin at 6 p.m. from the McDermott Center in San Antonio.

Big Red (1-14, 1-9 SLC) will look to bounce back from a run recent of setbacks. Their last defeat coming at the hands of Houston Baptist Saturday, which saw LU drop a 3-0 decision. A victory against UIW could see the Cardinals move up the conference standings by two places. UIW will also be coming off a defeat when they face off against Big Red, having dropped a 3-1 decision against Southeastern Louisiana last Saturday.

Kaitlyn Gill and Bre'Ala Box have been the standout players on the offensive side of the net for the Cardinals. Gill ranks tenth in the SLC for kills, after amassing 132 through 15 matches and is averaging 2.75 points per set. Big Red's Hannah Waters also ranks among the Southland leaders – in assists. She is currently eighth overall thanks to her 309 assists during the regular season.

However, Big Red will be weary of the threat UIW poses offensively. Bethany Clapp looks to spearhead UIW's attack. Clapp ranks third in the league in kills, having etched 202 kills on the regular season. Clapp also ranks second on total points, thanks to her tally of 227 points (4.54 average points per set).

Following the conclusion of Thursdays match against UIW, the Cardinals will round out their season when they travel to Texas A&M Corpus Christi (9-4, 7-3 SLC) on Mar. 27, with the match due to begin at 1 p.m.
