Price Named Southland Coach of the Week

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University head men's basketball coach Tic Price has been named Major Madness Southland Conference Coach of the Week announced the publication Tuesday morning via twitter.

Major Madness is committed to the coverage of NCAA Division I mid-major conferences that overachieve and steal the spotlight in March.

Price led the Cardinals to their best stretch of the season, with three straight wins over UIW, Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Prior to the three-game streak, the Cardinals then took on first-place Sam Houston right down to the wire before being edged out in the final seconds of the game.

The current streak began at UIW where Big Red handed the Southland's other Cardinals a 22-point setback in San Antonio. It was the lowest point production of the season for UIW's high-powered offense.

The Cardinals then returned home to square off against the one-loss Lumberjacks. It was the second time in seven days that LU was facing a one-loss conference team and the Cardinals battled SFA into double overtime. A back-and-forth game all night, the Cardinals managed to pick up the victory, 88-83, on a night where sophomore David Muoka tied a school record with nine blocks and just missed a triple-double by one block.

LU kept the hot streak alive Monday evening by defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 66-47. It was the second time in the past week that LU's defense held an opponent to fewer than 50 points.

Price enters the regular-season finale ranked fourth all-time at LU in wins, just 12 victories shy of legendary coach Billy Tubbs. The Cardinals will look to secure a conference tournament spot Saturday when the travel to Lake Charles, La., to face McNeese in the regular season finale.
