Cardinals Host Houston Baptist on Senior Day

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University seniors Bre'Ala Box and Kayla Neumann will take to the court one final time at home during the regular season Saturday when they host Houston Baptist on Senior Day.

Big Red will look to right the ship as they enter the final stretch run. The Cardinals have dropped five straight since their shutout win over Northwestern State. Two of the team's last three losses have been 3-2 decisions, including a heartbreaking setback at Nicholls Saturday which saw the Red and White hold a 2-1 lead but was unable to close out the match.

The Cardinals enter the final home match looking to make a climb up the Southland ladder with three regular season matches remaining. The Cardinals are currently 12th in the conference standings (1-13/1-8 SLC) just a game back of Nicholls in the loss column, and a game up on Northwestern State in the win column. Big Red is currently just 2.5 games back of ninth place UIW.

Saturday's opponent – Houston Baptist – still has a shot at the Southland regular-season title. The Huskies are 7-7 (.500) on the season and 6-2 (.750) in league play tied for third overall just a game back of the co-leaders. HBU comes the Montagne Center having won two straight and four of its previous five.

The overall series is tied 8-8 between the two teams, but the Cardinals have dropped the last three meetings. Prior to HBU's current three-match streak, the Cardinals had rattled off three-straight wins. The Huskies won last year's meeting, 3-0.

Saturday's match is slated to begin at the Montagne Center at 11 a.m. The Cardinals will close out the year with road matches at UIW and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
