Women's Hoops Set for SLC Quarterfinals

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball program will look to keep their winning ways going as they are set to open play in the quarterfinals against Central Arkansas from the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas with tip off slated for 11 a.m. on Friday, March 12th.
 
The Cardinals are led by Southland Conference First Team member Micaela Wilson who averages 12.2 points a game and leads Lamar in rebounds with 147. Senior Jadyn Pimentel was named the SLC Defensive Player of the Year and leads LU with 58 steals and 79 assists. Freshman Sabria Dean was honored with SLC Freshman of the Year honors for her performances during the conference portion of the season that saw the Big Red running a limited roster.
 
BROADCAST INFORMATION
 
  • RADIO: There will be a radio broadcast on NEWSTALK 560 KLVI with Harold Mann on the call.
  • TV: The contest in Katy will be broadcasted on ESPN+ with John Liddle at play-by-play and Van Chancellor at the color analyst spot.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Lamar University women's basketball program capped off the regular season with a win in the Battle of the Border over McNeese, 68-60, in Burton Coliseum on Saturday afternoon and secured the four seed in the SLC Tournament.
  • The Cardinals broke out the high-powered offense right out of the gate as they held the Cowgirls to just 14 percent shooting in the first period while making 38 percent of Big Red shots. Lamar kept with the high-powered pace as they shot 63 percent in the second quarter that gave Big Red a 36-20 advantage going into the half.
  • Overall, the Cardinals shot 40 percent including going 38 percent from beyond the arc. Despite the win, McNeese outrebounded LU, 45-40, but it was the Cards that were able to capitalize on second chance points. Senior Shedricka Pierson finished the contest with 13 points and four rebounds. Freshman Bebe Galloway finished the afternoon with 12 points and 14 rebounds for her second career double double.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • This will mark the 21st meeting between the programs with the Cardinals holding a 11-9 series advantage over the Sugar Bears.
  • The squads have not meet on the hardwood since February of 2020 when the Sugar Bears captured a 53-29 win over the Cardinals.
