Men’s Hoops Prepares for Stephen F. Austin

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Fresh off their impressive 22-point victory at UIW Wednesday evening, the Lamar University Cardinals will now turn their attention to Stephen F. Austin, as Big Red looks to make it two wins in a row. Currently on the outside of the Southland Conference tournament picture looking in, the Cardinals helped themselves with their road victory against the league's other Cardinals. LU would go a long way toward securing a spot in Katy next month with a victory Saturday, but to do that they will have to get past the defending SLC champions.

The Cardinals (5-17/3-10 SLC) are currently in 10th place in the standings (according to the point system adopted by the league for the 2020-21 season). LU currently sits just a point back of Houston Baptist and two back of McNeese (LU closes the season at McNeese) in the standings.

The Lumberjacks are one of just two SLC schools with only one league loss, but are currently third in the standings based on the points system. SFA (14-3/10-1 SLC) has won five straight and 11 of its last 12 heading into Saturday. The 'Jacks are coming off an impressive 83-57 victory at Northwestern State Wednesday evening.

The Cardinals trail the all-time series to Stephen F. Austin, 29-38 (.432), a record which includes a loss to the Lumberjacks in Nacogdoches earlier this season. Big Red owns an 18-15 (.581) record against SFA when the two teams meet in Beaumont. The Cardinals enter the contest looking to put an end to a three-game slide in the series. Prior to that, LU had won four straight against the Lumberjacks.

Saturday's game will tip off at 4:30 p.m. Saturday from the Montagne Center. Although the Cardinals will still have one more home game remaining on the home schedule, the Cardinals will be honoring their three seniors – Anthony Cameron, Ellis Jefferson and Avery Sullivan. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
