BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University Cardinals (4-17/2-10 Southland) will have to quickly put Monday's disappointment against Sam Houston behind them as they get set for their third game in the past five days. The Cardinals hit the road for San Antonio looking to right the ship.
Big Red has dropped six straight and eight of nine heading into Wednesday's game against UIW. Big Red is currently 12th in the Southland standings, just a game out of 10th.
San Antonio's version of the Cardinals enter the week with an 8-9 (.471) overall record and currently sixth in the league standings. UIW has dropped three of its last five games, and due to last week's winter storm, they had to postpone their game at McNeese and cancel their game against Stephen F. Austin.
The storm has also forced a heavy workload on the Cardinals late in the season. The storm, which forced Big Red to push its game against Sam Houston from last Wednesday to Monday evening, has LU preparing for its third game in the last five days.
Big Red leads the all-time series over UIW, 8-5 (.615), but recently had a seven-game win streak in the series snapped earlier this year in Beaumont. After dropping the first three road games in the series, the Cardinals have now won three consecutive in San Antonio (3-3/.500). San Antonio's version of the Cardinals recorded a nine-point victory in Beaumont when the two teams met at the beginning of February.
Wednesday's game is slated to tip off at 7 p.m. from the McDermott Center. Following the contest against UIW, the Cardinals will hop on the bus and return home to get ready for a showdown with Stephen F. Austin. The game against the Lumberjacks will be one of two remaining home games for the Cardinals this season.
