Hoops Set to Host League Co-Leaders

| By:

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University Cardinals (4-16/2-9 Southland) are hoping that a return home will be just what the doctor ordered, and help them get back on the right track. Having dropped five straight, and seven of their last eight games, the Cardinals are currently on the outside of the Southland Conference playoff picture looking in. Big Red is currently in a two-way tie for 11th in the league standings. The Cardinals will now square off against the Southland co-leaders, Sam Houston Monday evening.

The Bearkats have won three straight and 13 of the previous 14 games, but have had their last two scheduled games postponed due to the recent winter storm that hit Southeast Texas. In fact, Monday's game is a makeup date because these two teams were originally scheduled to meet in Beaumont this past Wednesday.

The Cardinals trail the all-time series to Sam Houston, 33-38 (.465), a mark that includes a setback in Huntsville earlier this season. The Cardinals are 22-14 (.611) all-time against Sam Houston in Beaumont, but last season each team won on the other's home floor.

Monday's game will tipoff at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Newstalk 560 KLVI. It will also be streamed live on ESPN+. Monday's game marks the midway point of a tough stretch for the Cardinals who will play three games within five days.
