Cardinals Set Flight Path for Corpus Christi

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – In a year of delays and cancellations due to the COVID-19 virus, the Lamar University men's basketball team had to suffer through another postponement this week, but this time it was due to the winter storm that hit Southeast Texas. The freezing temperatures and unfavorable driving conditions forced LU to postpone its game against Sam Houston State and push it to Monday, Feb. 22nd. With the postponement scheduled, the Cardinals now turn their attention to a road trip to Corpus Christi to take on the Islanders.

Saturday's contest at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi takes on added importance for both schools as both LU and A&M-Corpus Christi are in a similar position – needing to climb the Southland ladder and quickly. The Cardinals (4-15/2-8 SLC) enter the week in a three-tie for 10th in the standings having dropped four straight and six of the last seven outings – with the lone victory being an eight-point decision over McNeese during that stretch.

The standings continue to be jam packed allowing for a lot of jostling in the season's closing weeks. Big Red is just 1.5 games out of eighth and two out of seventh.

The Islanders (3-15/0-9 SLC) are still in looking for their first win of the season but have a little bit tougher road ahead of them if they have a shot and getting into the league's postseason tournament next month in Katy. A&M-Corpus Christi sits 1.5 games back of LU in the league standings.

The Islanders have had a tough time just getting on the court this season with all the postponements and cancellations. A&M-Corpus Christi enters the weekend with 10 games already having been postponed or canceled this season.

The Cardinals lead the all-time series, 22-10 (.688), over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and have won five of the last six meetings. Big Red has had its fair share of success in Corpus Christi posting a 10-4 (.714) all-time record. The two teams split the season series last year with each team winning on its home floor.

Saturday's game is set to tip off at 4 p.m. from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. It will be streamed live on ESPN+.
