SAN MARCOS, Texas – After a hot start to the game, Lamar University struggled offensively falling to Texas State, 67-47, Wednesday evening at Strahan Coliseum. The loss drops LU to 2-9 overall.
Sophomore
Kasen Harrison scored a team-high 11 points to lead an LU offense that shot 19-of-53 (.358) from the field and just 1-of-13 (.077) from three-point range. Harrison – playing his first game in the team's previous six – was one of two Cardinals in double figures as he was joined by senior
Davion Buster (10).
Texas State opened the game slow but finished the night 27-of-56 (.482), including seven three-pointers. The Bobcats also led on the glass finishing the night with a 36-32 advantage, including 14 offensive boards with a led to a 18-7 edge in second chance points.
The Cardinals opened the game connecting on four of their first seven attempts to build an 8-3 lead forcing Texas State to call an early timeout. Unfortunately, the Bobcats responded to the timeout with a 13-0 run to reclaim the lead, 16-8. LU put a stop to the run with a dunk from senior
Lincoln Smith but Texas State didn't let up.
The Bobcats pushed the run to 20-2, which coincided with the Cardinals hitting just one of their next eight attempts from the field with seven turnovers. Texas State carried the momentum into the locker room holding a 31-18 advantage at halftime.
Texas State opened the second half by pushing their lead to 16 less than three minutes in. The deficit grew to as many 20 by the under 12 media timeout. Big Red was unable to find its rhythm in the second half as Texas State pushed its lead to as many as 25 before the final buzzer.
The Cardinals will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Corpus Christi, Texas, to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The game against the Islanders will tip off at noon.
