HUNTSVILLE, Texas – After falling behind in the opening set, Lamar University rallied to take a two-point lead only to see Sam Houston score the final five points for the victory. The Bearkats took the momentum from the opening set win and held on for a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-17) victory over LU Saturday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum.
The Cardinals (4-19/0-9 WAC) hit .119 for the match, and unfortunately recorded their lowest attack percentage in the match's closest set (set one - .095). Big Red's attack was paced by sophomore
Amber Johnson and freshman Grace Nicholls. Johnson recorded eight kills on 19 attacks (.318), while Nicholls buried eight kills on 18 attempts (.278). Junior
Kaitlyn Gil added five kills, eight digs, three aces and a block.
The Bearkats posted a .254 percentage with 42 kills on 114 attempts (13 errors). Sam Houston was led by 14 kills from Ashley Lewis.
The Cardinals return to action Saturday, Nov. 6, when they travel to Edinburg, Texas to take on UT Rio Grande Valley. The match against the Vaqueros will begin at 2 p.m.
