RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky jumped out to a 21-point lead and never looked back defeating Lamar University, 42-10, Saturday afternoon at Roy Kidd Stadium. The setback drops LU to 2-6 on the season and 0-4 in Western Athletic Conference play.
LU finished the day with 193 yards of total offense, with 116 of that coming on the ground. The Colonels recorded 440 yards, including 217 rushing. Big Red's quarterbacking duo completed 8-of-16 (.500) passes for 77 yards on the afternoon. Dummett completed 5-of-7 passes for 55 yards but was hurt by an interception which was returned for a score.
Freshman Jaylon Jackon led the Cardinals' ground game with 11 carries for 42 yards, while
Chaz Ward added 41 yards on nine carries.
Big Red's defense was led by
Adrian Owens' game-high seven tackles, including one sack. Freshman
Ramond Stevens recorded his first interception with a diving pick in the endzone.
EKU scored the game's first 21 points before the Cardinals answered with a score early in the second quarter. Dummett led a 10-play, 75-yard drive that ended with Dummett carrying would-be tacklers across the goal line for the touchdown. Big Red tacked on their final score of the game with a 30-yard field goal from senior
Bailey Giffen with 1:25 remaining in the third. Giffen's field goal would be the final score of the game.
The Cardinals return to action Saturday when they travel to Stephenville, Texas to take on Tarleton State. The game against the Texans will kick off at 6 p.m. from Memorial Stadium.
