BEAUMONT, Texas – Despite the 2019-20 athletic year being cut short due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Lamar University recognized its student-athletes, fans and spirit squad during the second annual Cardinal Choice Awards Monday evening. The awards show was done online allowing the student-athletes to take part in the program from their respective homes.
Hosted by KBMT-TV Sports Director, Ashly Elam, LU handed out 22 awards Monday recognizing the great plays, players and fans that identified the 2019-20 season for the Red and White. The awards show also recognized the student-athletes hard work in the classroom and the Golden Triangle, as well as the top fan, pep band member and spirit squad members. The Awards were voted on the LU coaches and athletics administration.

Female Freshman of the Year – Klinta Blusina (Women's Track & Field)
Male Freshman of the Year – Anderson Kopp (Men's Basketball)
Transfer of the Year – Trevin Michael (Baseball)
Spirit Team Members of the Year – Mallory Judice (Cheer) and Morgan Birdsong (Dance)
Pep Band Member of the Year – Aaron Porter
Team GPA Award – Women's Tennis (3.77)
Red Cup Award – Softball (698.5 total community service hours)
Female Individual Performance of the Year – Esther Okoronkwo scores four goals against SFA
Male Individual Performance of the Year – Jordan Rowe wins SLC Cross Country individual title
Best Moment of the Year – Soccer wins SLC tournament and receives automatic NCAA automatic bid
Best Team Performance – Men's Cross Country sets SLC meet record for largest margin of victory
Female International Student-Athlete of the Year – Julie Emmerson (Women's Track & Field)
Male International Male Student-Athlete of the Year – Anthony Quirion (Baseball)
Comeback Player of the Year – Esther Okoronkwo (Soccer)
Female Strength & Conditioning Award – Erin Pequeno (Volleyball)
Male Strength & Conditioning Award – Tamatoa Neher (Football)
