BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball program will head north to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday for a Southland Conference contest. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (CT)

The Cardinals (9-18, 5-13 Southland) are coming off their first overtime game of the year where they fell to Incarnate Word, 68-67. The Cards are led on offense by sophomore Angel Hastings who averages 13.4 points per game, while defensively, senior Briana Laidler leads Lamar with 7.9 rebounds per game and 1.5 blocks per game.

The Ladyjacks (21-5, 14-3 Southland) are coming off a victory over Northwestern State, 61-45, on Wednesday night. SFA is led by sophomores Stephanie Visscher and Aiyana Johnson, who average 13.5 and 13.6 points per game, respectively. Defensively, the Ladyjacks are led by senior Riley Harvey who averages 5.8 rebounds per game.

This will mark the 74th meeting between the programs on the hardwood as the Ladyjacks lead the series, 57-17, over the Cardinals. Last time out, SFA captured a 54-53 nail biter over Lamar just a little over a month ago.

RECAPPING OUR LAST GAME
  • Despite getting 20 points from sophomore Angel Hastings, the Lamar University women's basketball program fell in overtime on Wednesday night at the University of Incarnate Word, 68-67.
  • The fourth came down to a run and gun battle with both teams tied at seven apiece at the media break in the frame. Pimentel and Hastings came up huge in scoring. UIW would hit a three to go up 53-51 with 1:50 left on the clock. Hastings took the inbounds ball and put it up for three and drained it to help the Cards take a 54-53 lead with less than a minute left, but it was not enough as both programs were locked up at 55 apiece at the end of the fourth.
  • Overtime was a thriller. Both teams exchanged buckets until an intentional foul by UIW's Imani Robinson put Hastings at the line to shoot two and she drained both. Defense was highly important on the next UIW offensive possession and the Cards stood their ground. Redshirt senior Amber Vidal hit a crucial jumper to extend the Lamar lead to 67-64. The "Other" Cardinals took a 68-67 lead with 12 seconds left on a Kara Speer layup. Lamar put up the final shot, but it hit rim as Incarnate Word took the overtime win, 68-67.

LAST TIME WE MET
  • Redshirt senior Amber Vidal finished the afternoon with 23 points, but it was not enough as Stephen F. Austin sank a last second free throw to take the win, 54-53, over the Cardinals on Saturday in the Montagne Center.
  • Vidal finished the afternoon shooting 10-for-19 from the field, and tacked on three rebounds, an assist and a steal in her performance. The Cardinals rattled off 22 points in the first quarter, compared to just 11 for the Ladyjacks. Senior Briana Laidler picked up seven points and six rebounds in the first half to put Lamar up, 31-27, heading into the break.
  • Laidler finished the contest with 12 rebounds and nine points, just one point short of a double-double. She picked up three blocks and three steals to add to her performance. Sophomore Angel Hastings added nine points and four rebounds.
