BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball program will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday night when they host Nicholls at the Montagne Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
The Cardinals (9-13, 5-8 Southland) dropped a 75-49 decision to Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon. Lamar is lead by redshirt senior
Amber Vidal and sophomore
Angel Hastings. Both lead the team in scoring with 12.4 and 11.7 points per game, respectively.
Nicholls (6-16, 3-10 Southland) is coming off a nail biter to Sam Houston state, 80-77. The Colonels are led by redshirt senior Airi Hamilton, who averages 12.2 points per game and bringing down on average 5.3 rebounds a game. Nicholls currently has three players shooting better than 45 percent on the season.
This will mark the 42
nd meeting between the programs on the hardwood as the Cardinals lead the series 25-16 over the Colonels with Lamar capturing the first meeting of 2020 between the teams, 84-78.
RECAPPING OUR LAST GAME
- The Lamar University women's basketball program dropped their second-straight after being defeated, 75-49, by Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon from the Montagne Center.
- Junior Jadyn Pimentel got back into the grove during the contest. The St. Louis, Mo., native, finished the contest with 13 points and added seven assists and five steals to her stat line. Hastings added two rebounds, one steal and one assists to her 16-point performance.
LAST TIME WE MET
- With four Cardinals in double-digit scoring figures, Lamar defeated Nicholls on the road to capture their first conference win of 2020, 84-78.
- Lamar was able to control the third quarter, going on a 16-3 run to end the frame. Hastings was able to connect on a huge three that helped seal the third quarter for Lamar, 64-58. Pimentel picked up two steals in the quarter to help the transition game.
- Senior Briana Laidler had a standout performance as she finished the night with 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. This marks her second double-double this season with the previous coming against Howard Payne when she finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
