Cards Welcome Tarleton State in Home Opener

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball program will welcome Tarleton State to the Montagne Center on Saturday afternoon for first home contest in 273 days with tip off scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.

The Cardinals are led by junior Angel Hastings who leads all scorers with a 10.5 points per game average. Junior Anyssia Gibbs follows Hastings with an average of 8.8 points. Hastings was named to the preseason All-Southland Conference Second Team along with teammate Jadyn Pimentel, who currently averages 8.3 points and 2.5 assists a game. Lamar is coached by Aqua Franklin who is in her second year at the helm.

The Texans are in their first season as a NCAA Division I program and are coming off a win over Bacone College last Wednesday. Tarleton State is led by Iyana Dorsey who averages 17.0 points a game and tacks on an average of 3.0 assists a game. Misty Wilson is at the helm of the Texans and is in her seventh year with the program.

LU goes back on the road on Wednesday, Dec. 9 when they travel to TCU for a tip off at 11 a.m. CT, before heading home to welcome Southeastern Louisiana in a friendly non-conference tilt. Tip off for the SELU contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.

LAST TIME WE PLAYED
  • The Lamar University women's basketball program traveled to College Station for the second time in seven days and fell short of a victory when they dropped the rematch of the season opener to the No, 12 Texas A&M Aggies, 80-63, on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Junior Angel Hastings added to her scoring total on the night and finished with 28 points on 6-for-17 shooting. Freshman Sabria Dean finished with a season-high nine points on 4-for-7 from the field and tacked on an assist and a steal in the contest.
  • The Aggies were led by N'dea Jones who finished the contest with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jones added on a steal and an assist to her stat line.
NEW FACES IN THE STARTING FIVE
  • Three Lamar newcomers earned starting spots at the beginning of season for the Red and White in freshmen Bebe Galloway, M'Kayla Malone and junior Anyssia Gibbs. Galloway and Gibbs have started and played in all four contests so far in 2020-21.
SERIES HISTORY
  • This marks the fifth meeting of the programs with the series being tied at two wins a piece.
  • The last time the programs met came in the 1976-77 season in the TAIAW State Tournament where the Texans came away with a 62-61 stunner.
