Cardinals look to Bounce Back at ACU

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Cardinals will look to bounce back, after suffering their first SLC lost, against Abilene Christian on Saturday, Jan. 4. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (CT).  
 
Lamar comes into Saturday's matchup after dropping their last contest to New Orleans, 62-57. The Cardinals were led by junior Jadyn Pimentel, who finished with a career-high nine steals to go along with 10 points and six assists.  Redshirt senior Amber Vidal recorded her sixth straight
 
The Wildcats (10-1, 2-0 Southland) are on a six-win streak after defeating New Mexico State, 67-54. Abilene Christian was led by Breanna Wright in the victory. She finished the game with 23 points.
 
This will mark the 10th  meeting between the Cardinals and the Wildcats. Lamar holds a slight advantage over ACU, leading the series 6-3. The last time these teams met came in the 2019 Southland Conference Tournament with the Wildcats taking the contest, 88-79.
 
STANDOUT STAT
  • Junior Jadyn Pimentel ranks third in the nation in steals per game with 41.8, while she ranks ninth in total steals with 46. She leads the conference in both categories.
 
RECAPPING OUR LAST GAME
  • Full-court pressure by New Orleans proved too much for the Cardinals as they fall to the Privateers, 62-57.
  • Pimentel led the way with 10 points and five assists. She also picked up five rebounds and a career-high nine steals in the loss. She moves into third in the nation with 4.18 steals per game.
  • Amber Vidal put up her eighth double-digit performance, and her sixth in a row. She finished with 11 points and added six assists.
  • Senior Briana Laidler finished with a impressive performance. She finished the night with 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting while pulling down eight rebounds along the way.
 
LAST TIME WE MET
  • Senior Moe Kinard tallied a game-high 34 points, while senior Chastadie Barrs finished with 10 points, in the loss to ACU in the 2019 Southland Conference Tournament.
  • With the loss to the Wildcats, the Cardinals will wait to find out their postseason destination.
