BEAUMONT, Texas – The Cardinals return home for a two-game homestand starting when they welcome the University of the Incarnate Ward to the Montagne on Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled to occur at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
The Cardinals (8-9, 4-4 Southland) are looking to get back in the win column after suffering a defeat to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, 49-39, at the American Bank Center. Lamar was led by sophomore
Angel Hastings who finished with 14 points and three steals, while redshirt senior
Amber Vidal finished the contest with nine points and six rebounds.
UIW (7-8, 3-3 Southland) is coming off a road loss to Stephen F. Austin, 67-45. The "Other" Cardinals are led by senior Imani Robinson and senior Kara Speer, with both averaging 13. 1and 7.9 points per game, respectively.
This will mark the 11th meeting between the programs on the hardwood, with the Cardinals not dropping a contest to UIW, leading the series, 10-0.
RECAPPING OUR LAST GAME
- The Cardinals were not able to get past the A&M-Corpus Christi defensive pressure in the second half as they fell to the Islanders, 49-39, on Saturday afternoon at the American Bank Center.
- Backed by senior Briana Laidler, who finished the first quarter with five points, two rebounds and two steals, to help led the Cardinals get out to an early lead in Corpus Christi. Lamar was able to hold the Islanders to just 30 percent shooting as the Cards went into the second quarter up 16-11.
- Hastings finished with a team-high 14 points to go along with three steals and a rebound. Redshirt Senior Amber Vidal finished the afternoon with nine points and six rebounds.
LAST TIME WE MET
- The home court winning streak for Lamar University women's basketball was extended to 40 games with a 79-53 victory over the University of the Incarnate Word. The 40 straight wins is the second longest streak in NCAA Division I women's basketball.
- The win for Lamar is its 20th win of the season and is the third straight year the Cardinals have won 20 games. LU is 20-5 on the season and 13-1 in SLC play. UIW falls to 3-21 on the year and 3-10 in SLC play.
- Chastadie Barrs led LU with 16 points in the game. Miya Crump and Moe Kinard followed with 15 points each and Jadyn Pimentel rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13. Umaja Collins led the Cards with 10 rebounds in the game.
