Women’s Soccer Travels to Arkansas and Tulsa

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's soccer team hits the road for the first time this season when they travel to Arkansas and Tulsa. LU plays at Arkansas on Thursday night before closing out the trip at Tulsa on Sunday.
  
THIS WEEK – Thursday, Sept. 5 at Arkansas, 7 p.m. (Fayetteville, Ark./Razorback Field)
Arkansas enters the contest against the Cardinals with a record of 2-1-1 on the season. The Razorbacks are coming off a 5-0 victory over Southeast Missouri State on Sunday, Sept. 1 in Oxford, Miss. The lone loss of the season for Arkansas came on Aug. 25 when they were defeated by Oklahoma 1-0 in double-overtime.
 
On the season, the Razorbacks have scored nine goals and have 11 assists. Tori Cannata and Anna Podojil lead the team with two goals apiece. Four different Razorback players have two assists on the year, which leads the team.
 
In goal, the Razorbacks are led by Katie Lund, who has played every minute. She has only allowed two goals while making seven saves. She has two shutouts on the year.
 
Anna Podojil was named the SEC freshman of the Week. She scored the lone goal in the double-overtime draw against Minnesota and followed with another goal on Sunday against the Southeast Missouri State.
 
Entering this season, six Razorbacks were tabbed to the SEC Preseason Watch List. Tori Cannata, Stefani Doyle, Parker Goins, Bryana Hunter, Taylor Malham, and Haley VanFossen earned preseason honors.
 
This will be the first matchup between the Cardinals and Razorbacks. Arkansas was picked to finish sixth in the SEC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
Sunday, Sept. 8 at Tulsa, 1 p.m. (Tulsa, Okla./Hurricane Stadium)
On Sunday, the Cards face the Golden Hurricane of Tulsa. Before playing LU, Tulsa squares off with Grambling State in Tulsa, Okla. On Friday evening. The Golden Hurricane enters the week with a 2-1 record. Its lone loss came on Sept. 1 when they lost 3-2 in overtime to Oklahoma.
 
Over its first three games of the season, the Golden Hurricane have scored 12 goals and have eight assists. Aubrey Lechlider leads the team with three goals. Following her, Tulsa has three players who have scored two goals each. Tulsa is averaging 17.7 shots and 4.0 goals per game this year.
 
Mica MacKay has started all three games in goal for the Golden Hurricane. She has a goal-against-average of 1.55 on the season and has recorded five saves. Jazmiera Ditter has appeared in game one for Tulsa in goal as she played 45 minutes in goal and made one save.
 
On Sept. 2, Tulsa's freshman Aubrey Lechlider was named American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week. She tallied two goals last week, as she scored in both matches. Against Little Rock, she added the final goal of the night and her goal early in the second half against Oklahoma gave Tulsa the lead at the time. She finished with three shot attempts, all of which were on goal, for her two scores.
 
This will be the first matchup between LU and Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane were picked to finish tenth in the American. Anna Williams earned Preseason All-Conference honors.
 
LAST TIME OUT – Alabama (Sept. 1)
The Lamar University women's soccer team closed out its four-game homestand on Sunday when they hosted the Crimson Tide of Alabama. The Cards were defeated 5-0 in the match at the LU Soccer Complex.
 
"Alabama is one of the top teams we will play this year and we knew they were very good in possession," remarked head coach Steve Holeman. We pressed them early in the second and had some scoring chances."
 
The Cards were outshot in the contest by Alabama, 34-7. Lucy Ashworth led the way for the Cards in shots with five.
 
Shots
Lucy Ashworth leads the Southland Conference in shots this season. Ashworth has taken 19 shots in four games. She is averaging 4.75 shots per game, which is the most in the SLC this season. Ashworth is ranked fourth in goals scored as she has two goals scored this season.
 
LU Game Highs
In the Cardinals second game of the season, the Cardinals tallied 14 points against Louisiana-Lafayette. Against the Ragin' Cajuns, LU scored five goals and had four assists in the match. The five goals were scored by five different players.

UP NEXT
Following the contest against Tulsa on Sunday, Sept. 8, the Cards return home as they open a three-game homestand on Friday, Sept. 13 when they host Texas Southern. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from the LU Soccer Complex.
