Women’s Basketball Announces 2019-20 Schedule

BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University women's basketball team, who are coming off back-to-back Southland Conference regular-season titles, will play 29 games with one exhibition contest this upcoming season. LU will play 15 games at the Montagne Center head women's basketball coach Aqua Franklin announced.
 
"Our schedule will make us grow up fast competing against postseason caliber teams including the defending national champs," remarked head coach Aqua Franklin. "I believe it's a great opportunity to gauge where we are as a program and continue to grow together and prepare for conference play. I am anxious to go to battle this season with these young ladies who are currently working hard to get better each day."
 
The Cardinals tipoff the season on Tuesday, Nov. 5 against East Texas Baptist University in an exhibition contest. Following the exhibition contest against the Tigers, LU hits the road for three of its next four games. LU plays at Oklahoma State (Nov. 8), at NC State (Nov. 14) and at Baylor (Nov. 21).
 
The lone home contest during that stretch is set for Monday, Nov. 11 when Big Red hosts its Second Annual Education Day game against Howard Payne at the Montagne Center. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m.

LU closes out its non-conference slate with three home games and a trip to California to participate in the ShareSLO Holiday Beach Classic hosted by Cal Poly. Big Red hosts Louisiana-Lafayette on Nov. 25 before heading to San Luis Obispo, Calif. to play Idaho and Cal Poly. Lamar closes out its non-conference schedule by hosting LeTourneau (Dec. 2) and Denver (Dec. 8).
 
Conference play opens Dec. 18 when LU travels to Southeastern Louisiana before closing out the 2019 calendar year by hosting Northwestern State on Dec. 21. Following the contest against Northwestern State, LU does not return to action until Jan. 2 when they host New Orleans.
 
Following the contest against New Orleans, the Cardinals play four of its next five on the road as they travel to Abilene Christian (Jan. 4), Nicholls (Jan. 8), Sam Houston State (Jan. 15) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Jan. 18). The lone time the Cards will be home during that stretch is Jan. 11 when they host Houston Baptist.
 
On Saturday, Jan. 25, the Cards face Stephen F. Austin at the Montagne Center in the first of two battles this season. The first game of the Battle of the Border series will kick off Feb. 1 when the Cards travel to McNeese.  
 
Five of the last nine games will be held at the Montagne Center for LU. LU hosts Abilene Christian on (Feb. 8), Nicholls (Feb. 12), Sam Houston State on (Feb. 19), Texas A&M Corpus-Christi (Feb. 22) before closing out the season at home on March 7 against McNeese.
