Meeuwsen Sets School Record in Loss

HOUSTON, Texas – In the top of the sixth inning, Kelly Meeuwsen singled to shortstop and with the hit she became the LU career hits lead with 202 hits at Lamar University. The Cards were defeated by Houston, 6-0 in the contest.
 
The Cards combined to for three hits as Meeuwsen, Kimberly Mattox and Maddy Myers picked up hits for LU in the contest.
 
Meeuwsen, who now has 202, in her career passed Ashley McDowell for most hits in a career at LU.
 
The Cougars took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. With a 1-2 count on Barker, she hit a solo home run to left center putting the Cougars ahead, 1-0. The Cougars collected one more hit in the frame, but she was left stranded.
 
In the top of the second inning, the Cards picked up its first hit of the contest. With two outs, Maddy Myers hit a double to left center, for the first hit in the game. Myers would be left stranded on base.
 
Houston added to its lead in the third and fourth inning. In the bottom of the third inning, Heebner recorded a two run RBI single extending the Cougars lead to 3-0. In the bottom of the fourth, Williams and Barker picked up RBI singles and Houston led 5-0 after four innings of play.
 
Lamar picked up its second hit of the contest in the top of the sixth inning. Kelly Meeuwsen singled to shortstop. Meeuwsen moved to second on a ground out. However, she would be left stranded on second base as the next two Cards were retired.
 
LU picked up one more hit in the top of the seventh inning when Kimberly Mattox singled to shortshop to start out the inning. Lamar could not get anything else going and were defeated by Houston, 3-0.
 
The Cardinals return to action on Friday, April 5 when they travel to Nacogdoches, Texas to face rival Stephen F. Austin in SLC play. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. on Friday from the SFA Softball Field.
