Cards Fall to La. Tech, 3-0

RUSTON, La. – The Lamar University Softball team dropped a midweek game to Louisiana Tech on Tuesday evening. The Cards were defeated 3-0 by the Lady Techsters at La. Tech Softball Complex. The Lady Techsters limited the Cardinals to four hits in the contest.
 
Four different Cardinals picked up hits in the game. Shannon Klaus, Savana Guidry, Taylor Murphy and Taylor Davis all had one hit for the contest. LU was outhit 5-4 in the contest.
 
In the top of the first, with two outs, Shaina Amir and Jade Lewis drew back to back walks putting two runners on base, however, the Cards would leave them stranded as they next Cards hitter was retired.
 
The Lady Techsters took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. With a runner on second, Zoe Hicks singled to left which scored one taking a 1-0 lead. On the play, Hicks was thrown out trying to go to third base.
 
Leading off the top of the second inning, the Cards put the first two runners on base, as Maddy Myers drew a walk and Taylor Murphy singled to right field. The next three Lamar hitters were retired, and LU left two on base.
 
The Lady Techsters wxtended its lead in the in the second inning as they added one run. La. Tech continued to extend the lead in the bottom of the third inning. The Lady Techsters loaded the bases with no outs but could only get one run in and after three innings of play La. Tech led LU, 3-0.
 
In the top of the fourth, Guidry had a bunt single but would later be doubled off ending the inning. La. Tech looked to be adding to the lead in the fourth as Mary Terral walked and went to second on a wild pitch. However, she was stranded at second as the next three hitters were retired by Julia Voluntad.
 
The Cards added another hit in the top of the sixth inning when Klaus singled to shortstop. Lamar could not get anything going. The last hit came in the top of the seventh for LU when Davis singled up the middle with two outs. However, she would be left on base and the Cards dropped the contest, 3-0, to Louisiana Tech.
 
LU returns to action on Friday, March 15 when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in SLC action. Cards and Islanders will play a doubleheader Friday at the LU Softball Complex starting at 4 p.m.
