Cards Sit in Tenth After Day One

LAREDO, Texas – The Lamar University men's golf team shot its second and third best rounds of the season at the Border Olympics hosted by University of Houston. The Cards sit in 10th place with a score of two-under par 574 (289-285).
 
Arkansas State leads the tournament after 36-holes as they shot 31-under 545 (275-270). Arkansas State lead by 11 shots. For full team and individual results, click here.
 
Leading the Cardinals over the first 36-holes of the tournament was Hugo Hellman. Hellman shot two rounds at or below par on the day. After shooting a first round of 72, Hellman shot his best round of the season with a three-under 69. He is tied for 15th place with a score of three-under par 141 (72-69).
 
Eason Wang is one shot behind Hellman after the first day. Like Hellman, Wang shot two rounds at or under par on the day. Wang shot a first round of two-under par 70 and closed the day shooting an even-par 72. He is tied for 25th place with a score of two-under par 142 (70-72).
 
Finishing third for the Cards freshman Kevin Lee. After shooting a first round of three-over par 75, Lee responded and shot two-under par 70 in the second round. His round of 70 is his lowest round of the season and is second round at or below par. He is one-over par 145 (75-70) and is tied for 50th.
 
Finishing fourth for Lamar was Dino Capazario. Capazario, joined the Cards this semester, shot a first round of even-par 72. He closed the day with a round of two-over par 74. After the first 36-holes, he is two-over par 146 (72-74).
 
Rounding out the Cards was Cody Banach. Banach shot a round of four-over par 76 in the first round. He was three-over par 75 in the second round. He is tied for 78th place at seven-over par 151 (76-75).
 
Playing as an individual for the Red and White is Nikolai Schaffrath. In the first round, Schaffrath was six-over par 78. He came back and shot two-over par 74 in the second round. After the first day of action, Schaffrath is eight-over par 152 (78-74).
 
The Cards return to action on Tuesday, March 12 when they conclude the Border Olympics. Lamar tees off at 8:30 a.m. starting at holes 9-12 and are playing with Little Rock, UMKC, and New Mexico State.
