Cards Travel to Northwestern State Wednesday

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball team looks to get back in the win column on Wednesday evening when they travel to Natchitoches, La. to face Northwestern State. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. from Prather Coliseum.

Northwestern State enters the contest with the Cards coming off an 89-73 victory over McNeese on Feb. 9. The win for the Lady Demons snapped a three-game losing streak. Against the Cowgirls, Northwestern State shot 56.6 percent from the field and hit 10 three-pointers. The Lady Demons were hot from the floor in the second half as the shot 69.5 percent for the half and 77.7 percent from behind the arc. The Cowgirls forced Northwestern State into 21 turnovers in the contest. The Lady Demons were led in scoring by Kira Bonner. Bonner played 24 minutes and scored 17 points. She was one five players in double-figures. 
 
Northwestern State is led in scoring by RaVon Nero, who is averaging 12.4 points per game. Kira Bonner follows averaging 10.3 points per game. Victoria Miller leads the Lady Demons in rebounding this season as she is averaging 3.6 rebounds per game. Nautica Grant leads Northwestern State in three-pointers made, as she has hit 37 this season and is shooting 41.1 percent from behind the arc.
 
As a team, The Lady Demons are averaging 68.8 points per game and are shooting 40.3 percent from the floor. The Lady Demons scored a season-high 100 points against LeTourneau on Nov. 12. Opponents are averaging 72.6 points per game and shooting 45.2 percent from the floor on the season.
 
The Lady Demons were picked to finish 11th in the Southland Conference Preseason Poll.
 
LAST TIME OUT – STEPHEN F. AUSTIN
For the first time since Jan. 6, 2018, the Lamar University women's basketball team dropped a Southland Conference regular season contest. On Saturday, the Cards were defeated, 70-58, by Stephen F. Austin. The loss snapped a 24 game SLC regular season winning streak.
 
With the win, SFA improves to 19-3 on the season and 10-0 in SLC action, while the Cards fall to 17-5 and 10-1 in SLC play.
 
Moe Kinard led the Cards with 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Miya Crump followed with 18 points rounding out the double-figure scorers. Chastadie Barrs recorded four steals in the contest and now has at least one steal in 113 straight games.
 
After shooting 53 percent in the first quarter, Lamar struggled shooting in the second and third quarter as they shot under 25 percent from the floor. For the game, Lamar shot 33.3 percent from the floor.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Feb. 16 when they host Sam Houston State at the Montagne Center. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. The Cards 38 straight home court wins will be on the line.
