Beaumont, TX. – Lamar University comes back for their third home game of the season against Mount St. Mary's in the BBN Showcase beginning Friday at the Montagne Center. The Cardinals are looking to stay undefeated at home and tip-off this tournament with a win. After the team's first loss of the season, the Cardinals (2-1) will be looking for redemption against Mount St. Mary's. The Mount is 1-2 on the young season with loses at Georgetown and Washington.
The Cardinals will once again be looking to Senior
T.J. Atwood for the kickstart. He has started this season off strong averaging 19.3 points per game with an impressive 7.7 rebounds per game. Atwood will be hoping to add to his totals on Friday.
Atwood will also be seeking help from two young teammates in sophomore
Davion Buster and freshman
Corey Nickerson. Each player has started the season by averaging double digit scoring. Buster has 15.3 points and 5.3 rebounds this season, while Nickerson is averaging 10.0 points and 4.7 rebounds.
The game against the Mount will be the first of the BBN Showcase for the Cardinals and will open a very tough stretch of road games for the Red and White. Following Friday's game Big Red will face away dates at Utah Valley, Kentucky and Alabama-Birmingham to close out the BBN Showcase, followed by a road game at always tough Texas Southern on Nov. 30th.
The Cardinals return to the friendly confines of the Montagne Center Saturday, Dec. 7, to host Rice.
When the Cardinals step on the court Friday to face Mount St. Mary's, it will be the first meeting between the two schools in program history.
Friday's game is scheduled to tip-off at 7 P.M. at the Montagne Center in Beaumont, Texas. It will be streamed live on ESPN3.
