Cardinals End Tough Road Swing at TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas – Sophomore Natalia Molina recorded a hard-fought three-set victory against TCU's Chloe Hule at No. 5 singles, but it would be the lone point for Lamar University dropping a 6-1 decision at TCU Sunday morning, 6-1. The loss ends a four-match road swing for the Cardinals to open the season.

The Cardinals dropped the doubles point with losses and Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, which was unfortunate because they had a lead on court No. 1, 4-3, when doubles were called.

Molina was strong in her match to get the Cardinals on the scoreboard. She picked up a 6-3 win in the first set and was close in the second before Hule got the 7-5 decision. Molina didn't let the second set steal any of her thunder as she bounced back in the super tiebreak with 10-5 decision.

Sophomore Milena Belianovich was trying to mirror the outcome of her teammate by forcing a third set. After losing the opening set, she came right back with a 7-5 score in the second set forcing the third. In the final set Belianovich was edged out, 10-7, but by the Horned Frogs' Addy Guerra.

The Cardinals forced a third match to the brink but came up empty on court No. 2 as well. Big Red was unable to pick up a point in the remaining three singles matches.

The Red and White return to action Thursday when they host a doubleheader. The Cards will face UTSA in the opening match of the doubleheader (10 a.m.) followed by Tyler JC in the second match (3 p.m.). Both matches will be played at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
