Cards Conclude Jax State Invite

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Wrapping up its first weekend of play, Lamar University's volleyball team played Arkansas-Little Rock early Saturday morning, falling to the Trojans in three sets.

Seniors Ivette Dim and Tomar Thomas paced the Cards offensively once again; each had five kills while Dim tacked on two blocks and Thomas had four digs. Kyla Rogers and Alyssa Legette split the majority of the passing duties with eight and six assists, respectively, and Zahria Scott led in digs with six.

Offensive struggles in the first set gave Lamar little room for error, and the Cards couldn't quite keep pace with Little Rock, falling 25-6 in the opening game. LU improved in each following set, taking an early led in the second and third, but UALR was determined to leave the Jax State Invitational with a 3-0 weekend, overcoming those early deficits to the Red Birds to take the second set 25-10 and the final set 25-14.

The Cardinals return to action Thursday in the first home game under head coach Michelle Kuester. LU will host Texas Southern, Southern University, and Howard this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the Cardinal Classic in the McDonald Gym.
