FRISCO, Texas – Lamar University took home two of the three Southland Conference player of the week awards, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Kelso Peskin earned the second Offensive Player of the Week award of her career, and
Jocelyn Hanrath was named Goalkeeper of the Week for the first time.
Â
Offensive Player of the Week: Kelso Peskin, Lamar – Sr. – Cape Town, South Africa
Scoring three goals in two games, Peskin helped Lamar to a 2-0 weekend with a 5-0 shutout of Grambling and a 2-0 shutout of Houston. She scored twice against the Lady Tigers from Grambling, in the 14th minute and the 54th minute. Her final goal of the weekend came in the 19th minute against Houston, breaking a stalemate with a beautiful header into the top left corner of the goal. Her three goals are tied for the most in the Southland Conference so far this season and have come on just seven shot attempts.

Goalkeeper of the Week: Jocelyn Hanrath, Lamar – So. – Salt Lake City, Utah
Shutting out her opponents in her first two matches as an NCAA Division I goalkeeper, Hanrath recorded a combined 12 saves this past weekend, including a saved penalty kick. That total leads the SLC in saves, and her average of six saves per game (five against Grambling and seven against Houston) is second in the league. She also recorded an assist on an outlet pass to Peskin for the first goal against Grambling.
Â
Imitating 2017's championship performance, Lamar is once again off to a hot start. The Cards swept the opening week's player of the week awards last season enroute to a regular season and conference tournament title, both a first in program history. Big Red totaled
nine weekly honors last year and had the
SLC Newcomer of the Year in Peskin and the
SLC Women's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year in
M.J. Eckart.
Â
The Cards return to action on Friday when they take on the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. LU will then travel to Oral Roberts on Sunday before returning to the LU Soccer Complex to close out August against Southern University on August 31.
