BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University men's golf team returns to action Monday to compete in the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. The Cardinals enter the tournament looking to build on the momentum from a strong final-two rounds at the David Toms Intercollegiate last week in Baton Rouge.
The Jim Rivers Intercollegiate is a two-day, 54-hole tournament which will be played on the par-72, 7,070-yard Squire Creek Country Club course in Choudrant, La. The tournament is set for 36 holes Monday and will conclude with the final round of 18 Tuesday morning. Both days will start with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
The tournament field will consist of 15 teams. The teams competing include tournament-host Louisiana Tech, Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Cincinnati, Georgia, Southern Mississippi, LU, Middle Tennessee State, New Orleans, Nicholls, Oklahoma City, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Troy and UAB.
The Cardinals will look to build off the momentum from their last outing in Baton Rouge. Big Red got out to a slow start falling to 13
th (of 14 teams) late in the first round at the David Toms Intercollegiate before rallying. LU started to surge at the end of the round and continued that fight into the second round. By tournament's end, the Cardinals had climbed the leaderboard to record a strong seventh-place finish.
When the Cardinals tee off Monday it will be their second tournament of three over a four-week stretch. It is also one of two remaining fall tournaments for the LU men (Oct. 22-23 at UALR).
