Southland Media Day to Air on ESPN3

FRISCO, Texas – Football fans will get their first look at 2017 Southland Conference football season Thursday, July 20, as the league will once again be televising its media coverage on ESPN3. Head coaches and student-athletes from all 11 schools will be previewed from Houston.

The Southland media event has been moved to Houston this year, a switch from Lake Charles, La., where it has been held the past few years. Lamar University head coach Mike Schultz will be making his first appearance at the Southland Media Day. He will be joined by senior offensive lineman Matthew Oubre and preseason All-SLC defensive back Rodney Randle.

The show will be hosted by Southland play-by-play voice Randy McIlvoy, sports director for Houston's KPRC-TV, and sideline reporter Tatum Everett. Everett also serves as the sports director at KTBS in Shreveport, La.

Press conferences and student-athlete interviews will air live on ESPN3, with the morning broadcast beginning at 9 a.m., and the afternoon show starting at 1:15 p.m. SLC Commissioner Tom Burnett will kick off the broadcast with the Cardinals scheduled to go on at 2:45 p.m.

The ESPN3 broadcast is available via watchespn.com and the ESPN app. Archived video of each team's press conference and select quotes from each attendee will be made available after the conclusion of media day.

Student-athletes will also take part in social media segments, which fans can follow live on the Southland Conference's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. The Southland's social media coverage of Oubre and Randle will begin at 3:15 p.m.

In addition to player and coach interviews, the Southland will also release the 2017 preseason poll as well as the winner of the 2017 Louis Bonnette Award – an award given annually to honor a member of the media who has helped further the coverage of athletics in the Southland Conference.
