Langley Competes at NFL Combine

BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University All-American defensive back Brendan Langley competed at the NFL Combine Monday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. A two-year standout for the Cardinals who played all three phases of the game, Langley put up impressive numbers during his time on the field at the combine.

The highlight of his performance came in the bench press. Langley had 22 reps in the bench which was the best performance of all defensive backs. He also finished the day with a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash, a 35.5-inch vertical jump, 123-inch broad jump and clocked a 4.21 in the 20-yard shuttle. Langley also participated in the 60-yard shuttle and three-cone drill.

Langley heads into April's draft with some notable strengths. NFL.com states that Langley has desired length for the position with blazing speed to carry vertical routes down the field.

One of the top high school prospects in the nation, Langley signed with Georgia out of high school before transferring to LU prior to his junior season. Langley started his career on the offensive side of the ball before moving to defense late in 2015 campaign where he put his skills on display early. Langley single-handedly flipped the momentum of the game at Incarnate Word with an interception. In a game that had been a defensive struggle for nearly three quarters, Langley picked off a pass and returned it 86 yards for a touchdown as the Cardinals went on to defeat UIW.

That was just a sign of things to come during his senior season. Langley ranked among the FCS leaders with six interceptions in 2016, including a school record three in one game. In addition his big play ability on defense, Langley also turned himself into a threat on special teams. Langley became the first player in program history to return two punts for scores in the same game. He also added a kick return for a score in that game as well.

An All-Southland selection on defense and special teams, Langley joined select company as a senior by earning Southland Defense and Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

The NFL Draft begins Thursday, April 27 with the final round taking place Saturday, April 29.
