BEAUMONT, Texas – For the second time this season, the Lamar University men's tennis team is heading to the state of California to compete. This time, the Cardinals will take on Loyola Marymount, Utah and UC Irvine within 24 hours of each other.
The Cardinals (8-5) enter the week three matches over .500 and riding a two-match win streak. Big Red has won five of its last six contests with the lone setback coming at LSU. The trip to Los Angeles marks the end of a six-match swing away from home for the Cardinals.
Loyola Marymount enters the week with a 4-8 (.333) overall record, but has dropped three of its past four matches. The Lions are coming off a two-point victory over Georgetown over a week ago. Wednesday's match would be the first meeting between the two schools on the court.
The match against Loyola Marymount is slated to begin at 10 a.m. (noon Beaumont time) from the LMU Tennis Center.
The Cardinals will return to action 24 hours later to take on Utah. The Utes are 11-4 (.733) but have found things a little tough lately. Utah has dropped three of its last five matches, but is coming off a shutout victory over Illinois-Chicago. Thursday's match will be the first meeting between the two schools on the court.
Similar to LU's match against Loyola Marymount, the match will begin at 10 a.m. (noon Beaumont time) from the LMU Tennis Center.
The Cardinals close out the trip that evening with a 7 p.m. match against UC Irvine. The Anteaters are 5-8 (.385) overall but have turned things around lately. UCI has rattled off four wins in its last five matches, but is coming off a one-point setback against Harvard. Thursday's match will be the first meeting between the two teams in tennis.
Thursday's match is set to begin at 5 p.m. (7 p.m. Beaumont time) from the Palisades Tennis Club. The match against UCI will close out the Cardinals' current six-match road swing.
