ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Kyla Green scored 12 points for Lamar University, but the Cardinals couldn't overcome a 3-point barrage from the host New Mexico Lobos in a 90-58 loss at Dreamstyle Arena on Wednesday night.
The Lobos (12-1), who improved to 10-0 on their home court this season, drained 15 3-pointers on the night, most of those coming from Tesha Buck, who was 10-of-16 from downtown en route to a career-high 40-point performance.
The Lobos, who entered the game ranked 11
th in the nation with an average of 10 3-pointers per game, exceeded that figure in the first half, as they went 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from beyond the arc over the first two quarters. Overall, New Mexico shot 60 percent (21-of-35) from the field in the first half.
New Mexico led 26-16 after one quarter and 54-29 at halftime. The Lobos pushed their advantage to 75-39 after three quarters before LU outscored New Mexico 19-15 in the final period.
The Cardinals (5-5) shot just 28.4 percent (23-of-81) from the field. Jadyn Pimentel and
Chastadie Barrs added nine points apiece for LU. Barrs had five steals in the game. Barrs, who has at least one steal in all 71 career games, now has 329 steals for her career, four shy of the LU mark of 333 set by Ramona Jones.
Green also had a team-high eight rebounds for LU. Briana Laidler and DeA'ngela Mathis each had seven rebounds for the Cardinals, with Mathis posting a career high for rebounds.
N'Dea Flye had 15 points, while Cherise Beynon had 11 points and 14 assists for the Lobos, who got 17 rebounds from Jaisa Nunn.
LU takes a break for the Christmas holiday before opening Southland Conference play with a pair of road contests. The Cardinals are at Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. Dec. 28 and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 5 p.m. Dec. 30. LU's next home game is 7 p.m. Jan. 3 vs. New Orleans.
